χpey̓ (formerly Sir William Macdonald Community)

χpey̓ Elementary School (formerly named Sir William Macdonald Elementary School) is a specialized District Indigenous Focus Choice School located in East Vancouver. The school was formally renamed in October 2017; the word χpey̓ translates directly to "cedar" in the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ language of the Musqueam people. Functioning as a unique district alternative choice site rather than a localized neighborhood catchment school, χpey̓ seamlessly infuses Indigenous pedagogies, culture, and traditional holistic teachings directly into the standard educational framework.
